Jordan Jackpots

Card collecting is an expensive hobby. It's the reason why I stopped already. It's akin to playing the stock market, or even the slots in a casino.

Once in a long-awaited-while, you do catch a prized card. From what I read, the current market prizes superstar autographs or game-used (GU) uniform patches from 2 or more players, or rare rookie cards (RC), or rookie inserts and parallels (i.e., refractors).

I had my share of great pulls. Two of them were very memorable Michael Jordan cards.

The best, I think, is the 1996 Topps Star Reprint Refractor (#74, I think) of Michael Jordan. I don't have it anymore but I scoured the web and found a nice article and an image of it here. For those who don't want to jump, it's the card on the left. In hindsight, the collector in me tells me I shouldn't have sold it after reading that there were only 50(!) made. Who knew? I didn't. So it's all just a memory now.

My other nice Jordan pull was his 96-97 Ultra Full Court Trap Gold insert. This one's still with me. All my other Jordan cards are gone. This one's not as nice as the reprint refractor above but it still is a nice pull that made me want to open more packs (then!).

I think with my luck, I could have pulled a Jordan autograph or even a Kobe auto or GU if I continued collecting. But the way pack prices were rising, I would have spent a lot less just buying one off eBay. Maybe one day. For now, it's nice to know and remember that I hit the jackpot a few times back then.

I'm starting a new blog for my card collections. It's mostly NBA collector cards and Marvel and DC VS System cards. I plan to either highlight the card, the player, or to sell them. That's right. SELL.

You see, I don't collect anymore. I haven't since more than 10 years ago. So posts here will also include player cards or sets that I'm offering to people who inquire.

And just so we're clear, any images I post are either downloads, photos or scans of cards I have or used to have. They are all copyrighted by their respective companies.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope the cardboard hobby will continue to grow with new players, games, sets, and collectors. And if this blog helps it even just a little, then good times are ahead! :)
